A History to be Proud of...
Buffalo Ranch has strived for more than
33 years to build a reputation for honesty,
integrity, profitability, ingenuity, horsemanship
and hard work. Established in 1973, Buffalo
Ranch had the most modest of beginnings.
Founders, S. David & Debby Plummer, set
out in the horse business when Mr. Plummer,
while in Graduate School, wrote a Masters
Thesis on the Equine Industry. Over the past
33 years, the Plummer Family has been involved
in every facet of the horse business. The
Plummer’s have managed and owned over
one hundred stallions, sold hundreds of millions
of dollars worth of horses, led the nation
in racing Quarter Horse Winners from 1988
through 1992, pioneered commercial embryo
transfers, owned Thoroughbred race horses
that have won All Major Races including,
the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, Belmont
Stakes, and the Breeders’ Cup. Buffalo
Ranch is home to some of the nation’s
most elite Performance Horses including:
2004 NCHA Horse of the Year, 2003 NCHA Leading
Money Earner, 2002 NCHA Open Derby Champion,
1994 NCHA Horse of the Year, 4 NCHA World
Champions, 2002 and 2003 NCHA Futurity Non-Pro
Champions, Producers of the 1999, 2001 and
2002 NCHA Horse of the Year, and 19 NCHA
Futurity Finalists.
The Plummer Family horse history actually
began shortly after the Revolutionary War
(eight direct relatives fought in the war),
when the direct ancestors of the Plummer’s
brought the first Thoroughbred horses into
Kentucky. A Kentucky historian by the name
of William E. Railey wrote in “History
of Woodford County Kentucky” in the
year 1938 the following, “The Stevenson’s,
the Gay’s and the Dunlap’s are
credited with bringing the first thoroughbred
race horses into Kentucky.” He then
goes on to explain that in 1779, Captain
James Gay, Alexander Dunlap and John Stevenson
brought the first “English Filly” (the
name then given for Thoroughbred race horses)
into Kentucky. Captain James Gay, Alexander
Dunlap and John Stevenson are the Plummer’s
direct Grandfathers.
